Samsung announces the Galaxy S2 for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the USA
Samsung has finally announced the arrival of the Galaxy S II on the shores of the USA. The Galaxy S II is being called the true iPhone killer from all circles of the tech world, and that too with good reason behind it. The phone has already seen huge success in Europe and the rest of the world with over 2 million units sold in just 42 days and has become the fastest selling smartphone for Samsung.
Samsung announced the arrival of the Galaxy S II on US soil in a grand fashion in its flagship store in Time Warner Centre in New York. It announced that AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile will begin shipping the hotly anticipated phone in the fall.
Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile said in a statement that, “The unveiling of the Galaxy S II is a landmark achievement for Samsung, our carrier customers and consumers.” He also announced that over 5 million people have already bought the Android smartphone in just 85 days of its launch which further strengthens its position as the only phone to give Apple’s iPhone a run for its money.
The device is a bit different for each of its carriers AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile respectively but some specs which remain the same are: a Super AMOLED 800×480 4.3-inch screen, a dual core 1.2-GHz processor, ultra-fast 4G network connectivity, and a sleek, simple design. In contrast, the Apple iPhone 4 has a smaller 3.5-inch, 960×640 screen, a slower 1-GHz processor, and a slower, 3G connection.
Sascha Segan, lead mobile analyst for PCMag.com says, “All of this makes for a spectacular smartphone.”
Segan told FoxNews.com before the launch that, “If the U.S. versions are anything like the international versions, these are going to be spectacular smartphones.” Segan has previously given an international version of the phone an Editors’ Choice award, saying it to be the finest Android smartphone available in the market today.
There has been a slight hitch in Samsungs endeavors to become the dominant smartphone player in the market with Verizon Wireless announcing that it will not be carrying the Galaxy S II on its network. Verizon focuses on alternative Android phones like HTC and Motorola.
Samsung clearly has the edge with its superb Galaxy S II phone on the iPhone 4, but with the iPhone 5 currently under development, nothing can be said about who will come out on top of this race for superiority.
It is being expected that the Galaxy S II will be priced at the regular $199 price with a two year contract on carriers. Sprint have already declared the pricing and availability of the phone for the regular price of $199 with a two year contract on September 16th but AT&T is yet to announce pricing and availability of the phone on their networks.
Samsung Galaxy S 4G Android Phone (T-Mobile) is not available at Amazon store.
